With the ORF live-recording (to be broadcast in November 2025) of the new program “WURZELN”, autumn has already started on a high note. This moving symbiosis of folk music and classical tradition can still be experienced live this season – at the Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt (14 Nov 2025) and in the Mozartsaal of the Vienna Konzerthaus (7 May 2026). Further upcoming concert highlights include appearances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (Beethoven’s Ninth), the Vienna Musikverein (Festival of Romanticism), the grand hall at Festspielhaus Salzburg with three major programs (Beethoven 9, Carmina Burana, Brahms’ Four Serious Songs), the historic St. Thomas Church in Leipzig (St. John Passion), and the Gewandhaus Leipzig (Carmina Burana).
Art song is once again given special attention: Rafael is particularly looking forward to a small Austrian tour with “Die schöne Müllerin”, and to his debut at the Oxford Song Festival. In 2026, major international opera debuts are on the horizon:
At the New National Theatre Tokyo (Die Fledermaus) and the National Opera in Beijing (The Magic Flute). A return to the Bregenz Festival is also planned – this time in concert – as Mephisto in “Faust et Hélène” by Lili Boulanger.
On TV, a new 3sat music production, “Memento Mori”, is currently being recorded and will premiere on November 2nd, 2025 marking All Souls’ Day. Almost a tradition by now: The ORF Christmas Day Concert, recorded in November, will once again reach – and hopefully touch – audiences far beyond national borders when it airs on December 25, 2025. Speaking of recordings, the album project with the RSO Vienna, which began in spring, is nearing completion. Its release is scheduled for summer 2026.

And finally, an exciting milestone:
As newly appointed Artistic Director of Music at the Salzkammergut Festwochen, Rafael will soon present his eagerly awaited first season program for 2026.

Mit der ORF-Aufzeichnung (Ausstrahlung im November 2025) des neuen Erfolgsprogramms „WURZELN“ hat der Herbst schon gut begonnen – die berührende Symbiose von Volksmusik und Klassik kann in dieser Saison auch noch live im Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt (14.11.2025) und im Mozartsaal des Wiener Konzerthauses (07.05.2026) erlebt werden.
Auf der Konzertbühne stehen demnächst unter anderem Highlights wie die Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (Beethoven 9), der Musikverein Wien (Fest der Romantik), das große Salzburger Festspielhaus mit gleich drei verschiedenen Projekten (Beethoven 9, Carmina Burana, Brahms: Vier ernste Gesänge), die Leipziger Thomaskirche (Johannespassion) sowie das Gewandhaus Leipzig (Carmina Burana) auf dem Programm. Auch dem Lied wird wieder ein besonderer Platz gegeben:
Rafael freut sich besonders auf eine kleine Österreich-Tour mit der „Schönen Müllerin“ sowie auf sein Debüt beim Oxford Song Festival.

Im Jahr 2026 sind zudem internationale Operndebüts am New National Theatre Tokyo (Fledermaus) und an der Nationaloper in Peking (Zauberflöte) zu erwarten. Eine – diesmal konzertante – Rückkehr zu den Bregenzer Festspielen ist für den Sommer 2026 geplant: als Mephisto in „Faust et Hélène“ von Lili Boulanger.

Im Fernsehen gibt es eine neue 3sat-Musikproduktion „Memento Mori“, die aktuell aufgezeichnet wird und am 2. November 2025, zu Allerseelen, ihre Fernsehpremiere feiert. Fast schon als traditionell kann man das ORF-Christtagskonzert bezeichnen, das im November aufgezeichnet und dann am 25.12.2025 über die Landesgrenzen hinaus viele Menschen erreichen – und hoffentlich berühren – wird. Apropos Aufnahme: Das bereits im Frühjahr gestartete Projekt mit dem RSO Wien steht kurz vor dem Abschluss; die Veröffentlichung des Albums ist für den Sommer 2026 geplant.

Als neuer Künstlerischer Leiter Musik der Salzkammergut Festwochen wird Rafael demnächst sein mit Spannung erwartetes erstes Saisonprogramm für 2026 veröffentlichen.
