The year 2026 begins in fitting style with one of Rafael’s signature roles: the title role in Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, this time in a new production at the New National Theatre Tokyo. Immediately afterwards, he returns to his longtime home theatre, the Vienna State Opera, where he appears as Papageno in the legendary Magic Flute for Children around the time of the Vienna Opera Ball. Speaking of The Magic Flute: another exciting production awaits Rafael in the same role, with a premiere at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.

Rafael will demonstrate his dramatic versatility in the summer with a planned return to the Bregenz Festival, appearing as the villain Mephisto in a concert performance of Lili Boulanger’s Faust et Hélène.

Upcoming concert highlights include appearances at the Vienna Musikverein (Chorus sine nomine, Festival of Romanticism), the Vienna Konzerthaus (Vienna premiere of the new and highly successful programme Wurzeln), the Großes Festspielhaus Salzburg (Carmina Burana and Brahms’ Four Serious Songs with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg), St Thomas Church Leipzig (Bach’s St John Passion), and the Gewandhaus Leipzig (Carmina Burana).

Lieder continues to hold a special place in Rafael’s artistic work. He is particularly looking forward to his upcoming debut at the Oxford Song Festival as well as performances at the Stiftskonzerte in Upper Austria, both featuring Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin.

The CD project with the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, launched in 2025, is nearing completion; the album is scheduled for release in the summer of 2026.

Das Jahr 2026 beginnt standesgemäß mit einer von Rafaels Paraderollen: der Titelpartie in Johann Strauß’ Die Fledermaus, diesmal in einer Neuproduktion am New National Theatre Tokyo. Gleich darauf kehrt er an sein altes Stammhaus zurück, die Wiener Staatsoper, wo er als Papageno in der legendären Zauberflöte für Kinder rund um den Wiener Opernball zu erleben ist. Apropos Zauberflöte: Eine weitere spannende Produktion erwartet Rafael ebenfalls als Papageno – mit einer Premiere an der Nationaloper Peking.

Seine darstellerische Vielseitigkeit darf er im Sommer bei einer geplanten Rückkehr zu den Bregenzer Festspielen unter Beweis stellen, wo er als Bösewicht Mephisto in einer konzertanten Aufführung von Lili Boulangers Faust et Hélène zu hören sein wird.

Auf der Konzertbühne stehen demnächst unter anderem Highlights wie der Musikverein Wien (Chorus sine nomine, Fest der Romantik), das Wiener Konzerthaus (mit der Wien-Premiere des neuen Erfolgsprogramms Wurzeln), das Große Festspielhaus Salzburg (Carmina Burana, Brahms: Vier ernste Gesänge mit dem Mozarteumorchester Salzburg), die Leipziger Thomaskirche (Bachs Johannespassion) sowie das Gewandhaus Leipzig (Carmina Burana) auf dem Programm.

Auch dem Lied wird wieder ein besonderer Platz eingeräumt: Rafael freut sich besonders auf sein baldiges Debüt beim Oxford Song Festival sowie auf die Stiftskonzerte in Oberösterreich, jeweils mit Schuberts Die schöne Müllerin.

Das bereits 2025 gestartete CD-Projekt mit dem RSO Wien steht kurz vor dem Abschluss; die Veröffentlichung des Albums ist für den Sommer 2026 geplant.
